Default Partition error, now it won't boot XP!

First off I have an HP Mini 311 Netbook with Windows XP.

Well I was doing partitioning with LiveUSB GParted on the HDD so that I could dual boot my factory Windows XP with windows 7. I set it to allocate 17 GB for the new partition. It started to shrink the HDD to the left and then when the first step was done it returned an ERROR in Gparted. Heres the error:

Quote:
File System: ntfs
Size: 132.45 GiB
Flags: Boot

Path: /dev/sda1
Status: Not Mounted
Label:
UUID: D6C20822C2080987

First Sector: 62
Last Sector: 277763849
Total Sector: 277763787

Warning:

Device name: /dev/sda1
NTFS volume version: 3.1
cluster size: 4096
Current volume size: (160030 MB)
Current device size: (142216 MB)
ERRPR: Current NTFS volume size is bigger than the device size!
Corrupt partition table or incorrect device partitoning?

Unable to read the contents of this file system!
Because of this some operations may be unavailable.
So I restarted and now XP wont start. After the HP logo theres just a blinking cursor.

I just did TESTDISK by following this tutorial:
http://partiitontable.blogspot.com/

Now theres no error or error flag for while in Gparted regarding the HDD but when I try to start in Windows XP it still has the blinking cursor.

The size went back to normal before I tried to partition.

/dev/sda1 ntfs 149.05 GiB 64.36 GiB 84.68 GiB Boot
unallocated unallocated 7.84 GiB ---

Only can boot LiveUSB. Help please!!

Thanks for your time.

hey ,

this what happend in my laptop recently , i formated the C: partition and it reversed like this :

D: volume NTFS
C: presrio FAT 32

mean while , the first one is D: , i called a reapiring shop and they told me , windows boot only from C: and non anothe partition !! and i tht is it ,,

so , u must allocate windows in the C: rather than another partition

(i canno garrenty you on what i have said , but it worked on me )

regardz , cold stream

To add to Cold stream...

...the same can happen to a slave drive, if the drive letter get's changed, the slave drive with all your jpegs or whatever will disappear into thin air, all you do in this case is to enter Control panel, Performance and maintenance then into Admin Tools and click open Disk Management, there you will be able to get the drive and it's contents back.... providing of course you know the drive's letter.

This usually happens when you start swapping hard drives around for some reason or other - one way to hide hard drives.
