Default laptop battery problem

Hi, this is what has happened to my laptop. Last winter, my battery kept dying so I didnt realize it and I thought my power plug was getting loose (cause at one time when I noticed it was discharging even though the power cord was plugged in, I unplugged and replugged and it started charging.) So I have done this many times and finally the battery wouldn't charge at all or do anything, so I ordered a new battery. Now it is still doing the same thing, but it is getting worse- It wont hardly acknowledge the power cord at all unless the battery is totally discharged, and it has to be off to charge it! I don't get it! Someone told me that the registry may be to blame, that it has read the errors so long that it thinks it may be normal. I usually use it at home, I don't really need the battery other than for if the power flickers. How can I set it to use power cord only?

Thanks so much for any help anyone can give me!

Lisa

Well...I don't think MS put any artificial intelligence in the registry, so that rules out that idea. Does the laptop work with only the power cord (remove the battery)? If not, then you probably have a faulty power cord and (unless you are a good welder) should buy a new one (and hopefully that will fix it). If it does work with only the power cord:
#1. You are set to use it without the battery
#2. If you still want to fix the battery, I think there may be something wrong with the laptop's power supply between the battery and the AC connection

Hope that helps...
