Default Gateway MX6625 Display Problem

After opening lid the display works fine, until you adjust it toward the close position then it blacks out. Close and reopen it works fine again. Lamp, inverter board or what? Would appreciate any suggestions.

repair shop -- let them have a look at it. laptops innards are too delicate to mess around with unless you are trained for it.

Could be the ribbon cable that's either requires re-seating (removing and then re-inserting) or replacement.

The ribbon cable has many fine edge connectors these are usually silver foil, not only are they used for the edge connectors they also form the conductor wire, these are very thin indeed and great care is needed when inserting them otherwise if the ends of the connector become bent or peel away from thew plastic tape you'll end up with them either not making contact or causing a short circuit by bridging the neighbouring contacts.

Ensure that they are pushed in gently and absoloutelty straight to avoid damage, do not bend and jiggle them.

These cables 'may' work loose with all the opening and closing so it's worth a check.

Gotta be mechanical, the inverter module is usually secured by screws or similar, if it was this it wouldn't just be 'as you moved the lid', there is also a cut off switch so it powers the display off just as you click it shut but I think your description rules this out.

Happy New year to all readers.

Does this switch also trigger the "hibernate or standby modes" for laptops?

No I'm pretty sure it doesn't I could be wrong though, this is to save battery when handling large files so you'll need to check this point. Have a look here and see if there's a manual you can download, there may be other sources as well. Gateway Support.

Support does not give anything for inverter board or display other than part numbers. Thanks anyway.

If it was the inverter the fault wouldn't probably occur as you are closing the lid, most probable a mechanical fault, loose connector or something like that.

When ordering spares just quote the model number as there may well be universal modules.

Default Display problem resolved

It was the sensor. It had shifted slightly and was turning off the back light. After removal and re-installation the laptop works fine. My thanks to all who looked and responded. May this help some one else, who is having a similar experience. webash
