I have had the same flash drive for almost a year, it's a Sandisk Cruiser 4gb., and up until now it has worked perfectly. Now, when I plug the drive into any computer and go into MY COMPUTER to open it the icon next to my flash drive is a folder, not a "drive"; sometimes the flash drive won't OPEN either. Following previous advice on the matter, I deleted all autorun files on the disk. This unfortunatetly seems to be only a temorary fix. Within any amount of time (sec, days, weeks, min, ect.) the autorun files come back. Can someone help me keep these files deleted and restore the normal function of my flash drive.
The first question, probably is going to be a no, can you see the flash drive in 'My Computer', trying the device on another machine was a wise thing to do as it seems you narrowed it down to the drive itself.
How about checking the pin connections, are they tarnished, covered in debris or fluff etc., any of these could easily be the cause along with wanting to be reformatted.... now this cause pani, let me digress-:
I have slave drive I accidentally formatted, had all my PCB artwork files and jpegs etc - all gone!!! I managed to get them all back, my friend accidentally deleted a picture on his SD camera card, I lent him the program and... it retrieved it, whether it will work for you I can not say, obviously if the card is faulty it isn't going to work at all.
If this is the route that you need to take I will explain the program that I used. Any important files it's always advisable to keep back ups one way or another.
Using another computer help site I have found out that my flash drive and computer OS are infected with a virus. How can I get rid of it. My OS is Windows XP PRO my computer is a Dell Latitude D800.
