Default Netserver E800: garbled display on W2k out-of-the-box

Hello,

upon the first full reboot after OS installation (W2k with SP3), the
screen is garbled. There is no mouse pointer. The MSGina dialog appears
far out on the right, only the leftmost border can be seen. Even this
disappears after some time. The machine remains pingable and there seems
to be hdd activity.

Is there anything wrong with my mainboard or is this normal behaviour?
If the latter, which is the correct driver? The board is reporting 4MB.

TIA,

Christian

for the record:
download the Rage driver version 5058 to a disk
reboot in safe mode
update the driver to version 5058 XPert@Work PCI
reboot
