I'm looking to add a slave HDD to my HP Pavilion 7935. Does anybody know of
a good resource for info on compatibility and my options re: sizes? Thanks.
Well, you can't depend on HP to provide you with that information. But in all
fairness to HP, it's competitors do a lousy job of providing information about
hard drive limits. So do the motherboard manufacturers.
So here is a best guess based on experience. Your system shipped with a 40GB
drive. The next highest famous hard disk BIOS limit is at 132GB, so I think you
are absolutely sure to be able to install a 120GB drive without any problems.
Above 120GB and you may need to add a 3rd party disk controller card to handle a
very large drive. You won't know until you try. Promise and SIIG are the two
market leaders selling this sort of card, available for cheap on-line. Available
for too much at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc... Ben Myers

I'm not familiar with the 7935, but if it has a USB 2.0 port available,
an external USB drive might be a solution.
According to the HP web site, two brands of motherboards were used in the 7935.
If the board is an Asus, the USB ports are definitely 1.1. If the board is a
Trigem, the HP web site does not say whether the USB ports are 1.1 or 2.0. My
guess is 1.1, which would make an external USB drive awfully slow.

Thanks guys. I have put in a USB 2.0 card and used an external hdd but have
decided to use that for my laptop images and media, and put in the second
hdd on the desktop since it is packed with programs -- plus I have too much
hardware crammed in my little home office.
I can certainly use the info you gave and it's much appreciated.
