Question Transfer license ownership

Hi all ;

This is my first post as a new registered member of HTFC; glad I found this site . Seems to have loads of info on computer items and knowledgeable folk to help out.

So, to my first question (a little background first):

My company was recently purchased by a new owner, and he wants the software licenses (particularly Microsoft) transfered from the old owners to his new company.

Many of the software packages are OEM licenses, so I'm not sure Microsoft even wants to know about them; might have to contact the hardware vendor (Dell, HP, etc.) for this, but would like to know .

Any help with this is appreciated; if I have made any errors in this posting (i.e., it's inappropriate for this site), please let me know .

Thanks!!

Dan

Hi Dan,

Welcome to HTFC!

I don't think you have to worry about it at all. OEM licenses belong to the systems they are attached to. So a new owner buys systems that include valid OEM licenses. Non-OEM licenses can be sold separately, just like any other company asset. So the new owner has purchased those licenses from the previous owner - as simplе as that!

Thanks, Overclocked; just the answer I was hoping for. The idea of having to document list, then send all that info to the product vendors was a nightmare !!

Thanks much !
