I never had any issues with ZA running properly but I would often get a
dialog asking if a program can access the internet and, of course, there is
no way to know if some program should be accessing the net or not.

Yea, and ZA only ever asks you about safe anpps anyway and not the malware.
I don't need a prog asking me if it is ok for IE to access the internet. If
you want to get really tricky with this stuff then try Anti-Hook. That will
ask you if it is ok to do anything on your computer, and I mean just about
everything. It is extremely annoying.

Does ZA work now ? I liked it at FIRST, then they got cute and
really ******* up the program. I switched to Kerio 2.1.5 so long
ago that's a 2003 version. Still works great, no problems.
