Default YoYo at boot; no go after that

Hello there,

There is precious little information about this problem, so I'm hoping
the collective brain on this list will know all . . .

1) At boot proceeds through POST
2) then "Verifying DMI pool data . . . . . . . . ."
3) at the c prompt: "YoYo"
After YoYo (where the "o"s look like eights on their side) boot does
not proceed and it just hangs there.

This has happened once before and I had to write zeros and reinstall.
Would rather not have to do that again.

Anybody seen this error?

Some postings say this is yoyo.1271 boot virus, but the reports don't
have the same results, i.e. there is additional words and effects
other than simply, YoYo.

I've tried flashing the bios, which one post said to do.

I've tried fixmbr and fixboot previous but to no avail.

Any ideas?

NB:
WinXP Pro (clean install 6 weeks ago)
ABIT BF6 mobo with 750mb ram
Everything running fine until YoYo.

Thank you for your help,

Matt

Hmm, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Looks like it might be, thanks
for the input.
