Not a great comparison. Vista is certainly not a jet if XP runs at car
speeds. Vista is more like a bicycle

OK I like XP cos it's better for games. Win2K was not good for games.
Vista is not good for games.

Well, don't worry too much you can apply the patch in about 18 months to
fix it. Possibly. It's called Windows 7.

There was virtually no difference between W2K and XP with regards to
games. All of the games I tried worked fine on W2K.

I had problems running my games in Vista Ultimate. Even after I
checked the "run in Win XP mode" they still would crash. I went back to
XP Pro and they all run fine. And I don't have an outdated computer like
a friend who works for MS suggested. If you game a lot stay with XP.

Do you know if 2000lite Pro
<http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html> is compatible with the IBM
version?
Do you have a link? The operating systems category
<http://www-306.ibm.com/software/sw-bycategory> only shows AIX, i5/OS,
Linux, z/OS, z/VM, and z/VSE.

I've been using Microsoft products since the first versions of DOS were
available. For many years I was happy with their products, but then, during
the last ten or so years, they have become too powerful, too monopolistic
and too greedy. I can no longer have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the
company.
I remember when one could buy a version of DOS and load it onto as many
machines as they desired. I actually looked forward to buying more MS
software in those days. It was understood that the operating system was
basically a freebie and the real money was to be made in later MS iterations
of popular software. Needless to say, this is no longer the case.
Frankly, having come from the old days and growing up computer-wise with MS,
I am bitter at the company and resentful. I do not wish them well and I am
ready to jump ship as quickly as another operating system is available, at a
decent price and without all of the user limitations foisted upon us by MS.
I have long suspected that this operating system would spring from the minds
of Asian folks.
Apple? No, snobs without reason. More limiting than MS, without any of the
utility. Apple is a dead-end, as long as they continue with our perceived
current business style and philosophy.
After all, folks, these machines are nothing more than glorified
calculators. There is no more magic involved in computing than there is in
heating up last night's meal with a microwave oven. The Genie died long ago,
for me.
If MS makes it impossible for me to continue to run XP, I'll move elsewhere.
I refuse to run an operating system that will not let me easily remove it or
reconfigure it. Our machines are not so complicated that an
electronics/software technician is absolutely necessary to piece one
together, or modify the system's focus/performance. They are, as stated
previously, just glorified calculators.
I've owned Vista and I got rid of Vista. It sucks. I'll go to Linux before
going back to Vista. Then I will sever all ties with MS. It's up to them.
