So, you're saying that the BBC story about the court case that cost
Micro$oft $1.4 BILLION a few weeks ago is BS? Maybe you should tell the
BBC that.

Maybe because you're a persistent nuisance. This is a personal
computer users group. Even those of us who aren't happy about some
of Microsoft's activities over the years realize that, for the sake
of efficiency, there can be only one personal computer operating
system and windows happens to be it. This isn't an advocacy group,
it's a technical help group. Schilling for Linux doesn't help
anybody here.

Ok. You are not going to see 4Gb using Windows 32 bit OS's. It's an
addressing problem where Windows reserves the top range of memory
addresses for it's own use and only reports the free memory.
You subtract the 256M of shared memory from that and you have what's
left to be available for your programs. What windows reserve's is
dependant upon your system configuration so it's different for
different systems.

Whatever ram you have left to use will still be operating as Dual
Channel, it will probably be more than 3GB. If you need more than
that under Windows you'll have to go to a 64 bit system.

That's what I thought, I wasn't sure about the actual intricacies.

So, what I might have meant to ask is whether the RAM is used.
I'm certainly not short atm but I'd prefer to be locked and loaded
if I get into something a little bigger or more involved in the way of
projects.

Got Ubuntu 64 on my other box and will probably dual boot this one
too when I install the quad. Everything below P4 2.8gHz has left the
building.

Found a cost reduced Asus MB, the P5GC-MX, which will accomodate
my 4300 core2duo and 2G of dual channel RAM.

So, what part of the story on the BBC website is incorrect? Did they or
did they not get fined $1.4 BILLION for anti-competitive practices? Or
are you trying to make stuff up again to divert attention from from
something that blows holes right through your comments?

Only because my comments do not agree with your twisted view of things
you think I'm a nuisance?

And linux is used on personal computers so discussion of linux and
Microsoft very much fits into the aim of the group.

Well, this sure is a funny looking version of Windows I have on my
computer considering it wasn't made my Microsoft. The very fact I (and
many others) do NOT use Windows proves your comment incorrect (as usual).

Didn't you say linux was too technical for normal users? In that case
you want technical discussions on here just as long as they are not too
technical?

Maybe, but it does open peoples eyes to Microsofts bully-boy and illegal
tactics that they won't get from the spotty kid in Best Buy.

No, actually I agree that your parents probably were siblings.

Wrong. This is a technical help group. And your aim here is
not to discuss, it's to troll.

About 95% of PC users use Windows, troll. This is not an advocacy
group, this group is not for promoting your closet dweller, sibling
parent Linux Lunatic operating system.
>> This isn't an advocacy group, it's a technical help group.
>

No, troll. Compared to Windows, Linux doesn't run personal computer
applications, that's the problem. Professional software publishers
don't write PC applications for Linux because its PC user base is
tiny.
> In that case
> you want technical discussions on here just as long as they are

This is a technical help group for personal computer users. You
shilling for Linux is not providing technical help here. If someone
asks a question about Linux, then oddly you would be on topic to
reply.

I'd like to see you conversing with someone in person. But you
probably don't spit like you do here. Nobody cares. Nobody here or
there needs the help of a Linux Lunatic. But that's a good idea, go
be a nuisance at BestBuy.

Who are you agreeing with? Yourself? I told you elsewhere that they
weren't. Is reading too difficult for you now or do you have difficulty
comprehending the written word?

Now you're disagreeing with yourself.... a couple of posts earlier you
said "there can only be one personal computer operating system and
windows happens to be it". Now you're saying that only "95% of PC users
use Windows". Make up your mind, troll, either there is one operating
system for PCs or there is more than one.

No, you are the one who is trolling because you don't seem to be aware
that Windows != personal computer. Windows and linux are operating
systems, the hardware is the personal computer. Both operating systems
runs applications that were designed to run on a PC perfectly well.
> Professional software publishers
> don't write PC applications for Linux because its PC user base is

Really? Let's just pick one topic at random for a multi-billion dollar
business. What OS do the Hollywood studios use for their animation
rendering farms? Let's see, DreamWorks use linux [1], Pixar use linux
[2] and a at least a few others [3] [4] [5].
Maybe you don't consider companies like Dreamworks, Pixar, HP and IBM as
professional? Or are you just trolling? The majority of the internet
runs on linux servers, a lot of ATC and satellite operations run on
linux because if its stability etc [6]. Care to pick another profession
to see if I can find linux used there?
You can try to disparage linux all you like, but there is a high chance
you are unwittingly a linux user yourself due to linux being embedded in
so many electronic devices these days from routers to washing machines!

You were the one who said linux is technical, so why can't people who
run it on their personal computers get help here?
