Default Speakers no longer detected

A few days ago, I purchased a PNY 8800GTS graphics card. I installed
it in the normal way; Removed nvidia display drivers, inserted the
card, installed the new 158.19 forceware drivers for the 8800 series.
The thing is, ever since I installed the card, my computer no longer
detects the onboard sound (RealTEK AC'97 audio). I used to go to
volume control and click properties, then there would be realtek AC97
audio, but there is nothing there now. In the control panel, it shows
nothing detected under sound/volume options. The strange thing is, my
logtech USB headset works just fine. so far I have tried:

-Reinstalling nforce chipset drivers
-Reinstalling latest Realtek drivers
-Tried various speakers/headphones

My mobo is an Asus A8N-SLI

Please help.

Update:
I restarted my computer a couple times and now the AC97 Audio does
show up, but when I disconnected my USB headset, the system froze and
then bluescreened, saying there was a hardware issue.
Please help

You might have an IRQ conflict. Both the video and sound are trying to use
the same resources.
You could try going into device manager and uninstalling the sound chip and
restarting.Same with the vid card. You can try doing it manually in the
bios, but you'd have to know which PCI "slot": the sound chip is using. I
know it's onboard but it's still assignes a "slot".

I had a similar problem happen with my pci cards once when I removed one of
them in the usual way. The resources for all the pci cards became scrambled,
and none of the the remaining cards were recognized. I decided to uninstall
and reinstall each one, one at a time. After removing (in Windows, not
physically) the first one and restarting, XP found the hardware and driver,
system came up, and all was right with the world ever since. Very strange. I
would try something similar. It might work for you.
