I have an Asus A8n32sli dlx mainboard with a
Realtek ac97 sound chip built in. I upgraded to a
SoundBlaster Audigy (PCI slot) Both options produce
poor sound, along with clicking, popping, and radio
frequency interference from the wireless mouse and
keyboard.
My understanding is that PCI is an old standard that is
being phased out in favor of PCI express. Has anyone
had any luck using a PCIE soundcard ? or maybe a usb
sound device ? I have Vista 64bit.
Please help me to understand what options I might have.
Thanks
Mike

If you're getting that with the Audigy, it suggests it is being picked
up by the speaker cables.

After having trouble with a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi card under Vista 64
through a couple of sets of driver updates, I gave up. My current card is
this one, still PCI:
It has worked perfectly for me. (I don't use most of its advanced features.)
I like that it includes a header for front panel audio, but I seldom use it.

If you are talking about using a microphone...

....then yes, a USB microphone can help solve noise problems.

Did you disable the on-board sound chip and uninstall the drivers before
you installed the SBA?
It is a known fact that Vista 64 bit version drivers tend to be unstable
with Soundblaster cards.

I love the onboard audio of my Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard. I no
longer use soundcards. And I use music creating apps like Reason. I'm
happy.
