Default Seagate Freeagent Desktop stps intermittently !

I bought Seagate freeagent desktop 500GB to back up my music files.
When I play music through Foobar player using ASIO4ALL or kernel
streaming, audio stops randomly. There is no hard disk activity during
these random hang-ups. Very annoying.

I use Athlon XP2400+ with GIGABYTE nforce 2 mother board with 512MB
memory.
Please help me! Is my new drive defective?

Do you have DMA enabled for the drive?
