Would the optimal RAM for a Q6600 (which has a 1066 MHz FSB) be RAM
rated at 533 MHz?
What if a vendor only offers 667 MHz and 800 MHz RAM? How much of a
performance hit would it be to use 667/800 MHz RAM with the Q6600,
instead of 533 MHz RAM?
And would it be better to use 667 MHz or 800 MHz RAM with the Q6600?

It wouldn't be a performance hit to use faster RAM, it would be a benefit.
The faster the RAM the higher the performance (though we're not talking
about a massive difference).

Since the 800Mhz RAM can be bought for about the same price as the slower
667Mhz, I'd go for the faster stuff.
The maximum speed of the RAM you can use with that CPU is determined by the
motherboard chipset, not the CPU. If you look in your motherboard's Manual
you will probably find that it will effectively run 800 MHz RAM while the
CPU runs at 1066 MHz internally. That the situation with my Asus P5N32-E
SLI motherboard.
