Default quick question

I got a little cheap 4 port USB front panel for my computer and the
connector cable to the motherboard is a single row and nothing is labled.
The wires are red white green black then a heavily coated black... should I
assume that the red is the +5v or the one black that's got the heavier
coating (which looks like a heat shrink wrap)

I think it's supposed to be two rows of four or five pins with one
corner pin blocked.

if I do the other cable has all single wire pin connecters and none of them
are labled either.

well I double checked and I do have it right... the only wire label
configuration on the box is actually for the firewire so the single row plug
I described is indeed for the USB ports

You might have it right and the plug might be for the USB ports, but
whether the plug will work (without painful modification) depends on
your mainboard. Look at your mainboard manual for a picture of the
front USB header(s).
