over heating or power problem

My computer at times goes on a restart spree, during the startup after
the windows log in screen it restarts itself and sometimes so
endlessly that i think it must be starting itself like 50 times in 10
mins , and also very frequently it goes dead , veryyy frequently and
on the next restart i get a message that it was due to overheating,
what i do , other than of coarse getting my room air conditioned . i
use a p4 2.26 Ghz processor and my ram is 768gb.

whats the room temp?
all fans are running?

Take the side of the case off.........use a can of compressed air and blow
all the dust out.
leave the side off and restart...enter the BIOS and check the
temps........look to see that all fans are actually working.
safe and exit the BIOS and let Windows start.................does it??
Put the side back on and try it again.................

room temp is arnd 30 degrees celcius and ya all the fans r runnin and
the cpu case is open

Exit the bios and start windows ? u mean take off the battery and
start? i tried that too, it starts but doesnt stay for more than like
2 mins and actually sometimes it stays for 2 hrs or more cant
understand wat the actual problem is

No I dont mean take the CMOS battery out.........when you do that you are
resetting your BIOS back to dafault.
I meant actually entering the BIOS ..usually done by pressing delete on
boot.......and then find the page where it displays the temperatures.
Check to see what your temps are and also check your hi limit at which point
your system would shut itself off............dont change it.
Then post back those temps as well as what CPU you are using and what
parts..case/power/hd/fans/mobo/ram
You might be looking at a couple of problems........one the startup problem
could be power related because the system should be cool when you first
start.
2nd could be heat build up on the CPU or Mobo....................
