Default Which Motherboard?

Hey guys. Basically I don't really know where to start and could do
with some advice to get me off the ground.

I'm looking for a new motherboard that I will, in all likelihood, pair
up with a Q9300 or Q9450 Quad Core CPU. I am likely to want:

- One graphics card slot, though more couldn't hurt.
- Some upgradibility for the CPU.
- Room for 3.5" SATA-300 hard drives, though more would always be a
bonus. I also have a WD 20GB Caviar drive I would like to connect up
if possible to transfer data over.
- Little or no overclocking features if this will increase the price.

I have a reasonable budget, but anything more then £130 is probably
too much unless there are substantial benefits.

Kind Regards,

Matt

A lot depends on what other features you need: 1 or 2 Ethernet ports? IEEE
1394 (Firewire)? How many SATA ports? How many USB ports?

I just put a Q9450 on a Gigabyte X48-DS4
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128336), and already
have an E6850 on the P35-DS4. It's at the top end of your price range, but both
my DS4s worked fine from the start.

You can save a little money by going to the X38 chipset (which was rather
quickly superseded by the X48) or save more with the P35, but your future
upgrade paths may be more restricted.

Finally, there certainly are cheaper MoBos, but some may be worth what you
[don't] pay for them...

1 Ethernet port, not bothered about Firewire, two SATA minimum and 6
USB minimum. The ability to add a USB bracket on the front of the case
and use that would be essential as well.

Kind Regards,

Matt

Most MoBos on the market will do that easily. Shop around on line for the major
brands (Gigabyte, MSI, Intel, Asus; I see a lot of ads for Foxconn and DFI, but
know nothing about them; Asrock is apparently the low end line from Asus)) and
see what you come up with in price and features.

The USB bracket means you want at least 2 internal USB headers (internal flash
card readers and/or FDD will likely use 1). Even if you don't get 6 backplane
USB ports, you can easily add a powered hub for more...

Just go to pricewatch dot com and look around and check out the specs.

Because I'm asking for people's experiences as well.

Kind Regards,
