Default IDE cable connector - male

For a project to link a parallel 40 way IDE cable to a IDE to USB
converter I require a male 40 way IDE connector (aka 40 way IDC cable
mounting plug) - in the UK Maplins (the most obvious source) only does
the female socket variety – not the one I need.
Any ideas of shops/outlets in London UK that would stock these?
Thanks, Roy

It is made by 3M.

You can pump that part number (MPK40K-ND) in here, for a local order.
(Digikey have a >2000 page PDF catalog that you can download. Which
is how I found the above item. The online search engine isn't quite
the same, when it comes to finding stuff.)

Have you fitted an insulation displacement connector onto a ribbon before ?
We had the press, and the ribbon cable cutter ("guillotine") accessory
at work, and it did a fine job. But if you have really sharp scissors,
and a bench vise, you can probably make something that works.

Digikey also sells premade cable assemblies, but they aren't a stock
item. And the final price to get to you, might be a bit daunting.

I was originally going to answer this, by suggesting wire wrap pins,
as a way of joining two female 40 pin connectors together. But finding
wire wrap pins at retail, isn't likely to happen. And the minimum
quantity could be $500.00 worth :-(
