Default Hi, Everybody!

I have an old poor version of Dell laptop (Model 1100). Despite being
old it was working faithfully till very recently. However, not very
long ago, I found that the registery of my computer's DVD rom has
either damaged or corrupted. And, you all know what it means when
something like this happens! Frustration! I am very frustrated about
the problem I have mentioned above. So, if any of your guys can tell
whether this corrucpted/damaged registry sort of problem can be fixed
anyhow? Or, if not, then, what sort of thing I can do to get my DVD
rom working again?

Hope, some genius, wise and sympathetic friend from among you can help
my DVD rom and myself out of this problem. By the way, I have tried
all the troubleshooting sort of things like uninstalling and
reinstalling the DVD rom drive but to no avail!

"I found that the registery of my computer's DVD rom has either damaged
or corrupted."

How did you reach that conclusion ? Do you have evidence of it ?

It might help, if you could describe symptoms a bit. Does inserting a
CD behave differently than inserting a DVD ? Does the problem only
happen when you are trying to burn a DVD ? Does the problem happen
when trying to Explore a DVD (just list the contents) ?

A popular problem, could be related to "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters",
which are associated with optical drives. But it helps if you also
provide a description of your symptoms, such as which operations
succeed and which ones fail. And Upperfilter/Lowerfilter problems
can sometimes be caused, by the CD/DVD burning software you just
added to the computer.

In some cases, a poster here might conclude you have an optical drive
failure, or a dirty lens on the optics. But we need a description
of the symptoms, to help further.

The registry is too complicated to just "fix" by waving a magic wand.
And you can't buy a "replacement registry" at the store :-)

Is the drive still listed ? Can you see it in Device Manager ? Can
you see it being detected in the BIOS ? Does it show up in
Everest or Sisoftware Sandra ?
