Default Hard drive and DVD burner on same IDE channel

The newer motherboards have only one IDE connector.

In upgrading, I would like to use one of my old IDE/PATA hard drives.

Of course I want to run a DVD burner too.

Would I have problems putting the DVD and the hard drive on the same
80-wire IDE cable?

No problem at all as long as they are jumpered properly of course.

So what happened with those files on the dying hard drive?

Just curious.

I thought I had read that putting them on the same channel would slow down
the hard drive. Is that not the case?

Not since the mid 90's.

If Concerned why not purchase a SATA DVD burner

Trying to use as much of my old hardware as possible. But my next new
DVD burner will be SATA ...
