Default External USB Drive Case - Drive Won't Mount

I just installed one of my spare Seagate IDE drives (40 gb) into a new
Nexxtech drive case.

Drive spins up, and jumper pin is set to MASTER, per instructions.

But it won't mount in Windows XP, or Mac OS X.

On the Windows side, Windows is trying to mount this drive every few
seconds - "da-DINK", and then 10-15 seconds later, "DE-dink", as if
it's mounting and then unmounting the drive. You've all heard that
sound before, right? Device Connect.wav, and Device Disconnect.wav

Nothing shows up in My Computer, or on the OS X desktop. Not sure how
this drive is currently formatted, however. But why should that stop
Windows from mounting this drive?

Pin selection is set to Master, as I said earlier. Pin diagram is on
the bottom of the drive, thankfully.

What's up with this? I though this would be a no-brainer, and I'd be
backing up data to this drive by now.

Nexxtech case looks identical to my present Acomdata case, which works
fine. No snags installing the drive into this case at all.

What did I miss?

Thanks!

Same thing - Windows tries to mount the drive, but you hear both the
Device Connect.wav, and Device Disconnect.wav

I've tried both MASTER and CABLE SELECT jumper pin positions.

And, since there is no cable the drive can only mounted and cabled up
one way. It merely slides into a connector on the circuit board.

I'll keep trying.

I had this problem once with an external HD that I used to connect to
E-SATA( it had E-SATA and USB) and one day tried to connect to USB..wouldn't
take....
but when I rebooted with the drive connected to USB at boot it took....dont
know how or why....it just worked.

Try to remove the jumper altogether and post your results.
