Following the installation of XP SP3 my D-Link driver ceased working. This
was and is a know D-Link problem. A DLL file had been overwritten by the
update and placed the software over a table and was giving it a continual
rogering.
D-Link have issued an updated driver to see off this problem but for the
life of me (some 18 years experience with comps and building) I just cannot
get that little blighter installed.
I use the standard update driver method but just cannot get it to work. Now
when I use update driver, I aim the search for the new driver, it goes
through all the routine but just does not update it. Then it tells me the
driver installed is the newest one available yet I know it aint.

Installshield things ?

I see two files in the folder, for a particular OS.

My OS is XP Pro.
The chipset is Ralink but I tried both inf files with same result.
Not to worry, I will continue to let windows driver run the wireless.
It only that I wanted the D-Link application/driver to control the wireless.

when I do update the driver it installs rt61.sys which IS the file in the
download patch. So perhaps it is changing the driver. But looking at the sys
file detail it dates it 2006...........rather odd for a supposedly latest
update patch.
Plus I still get the problem when I fire up the comp as detailed by
wlanapi.dll error.

This isn't an exact recipe, but it hints at the concept. They are
copying back wlanapi.dll to two places. Trouble is, I don't know
what "ANI" stands for, and whether it is part of a Dlink package
or not. I suspect this has a better chance of working, then
changing a driver portion for a lower level part of the protocol
stack.

thanks Paul I will give that a try later. In fact it IS the application that
is throwing up the error and maybe not a driver problem at all.
I do not know what the ANI is as there is no such folder in my prog file.

With both Linksys and D-Link I've had better performance by letting Windows
manage the wireless connections, and only installing the basic
Linksys/D-Link driver -- NOT the full connection manager package.
