Default CPU Overheating

hi, i have a 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. (SL9S7 MALAY) and i recently built my computer and what im finding is that the stock intel 775 fan tends not to do the job. what happens is that the computer turns on fine but beeps with 3 short beeps (couldnt find exact meaning) and after somthing like 30 seconds the entire computer would randomly shut down instantly.

the motherboard is the ASUS P5N32 - SLI Premium
Ram is 800 MHZ Top ram 4X2gb 240 DIMM PIN
Graphics card is ATI Radeon X1950XTX 512 mb

the motherboard seems to be ok but it is an old motherboard and may be faulty (not sure)

im looking into buying a new cpu fan but am checking with you guys first for advice.

I did an experiment with holding an old Pentium 4 CPU Fan to the CPU which worked perfectly until i removed it.

3 beeps Is a memory error. And yes, I'd replace the stock heatsink and fan
with a nice aftermarket.
