Hi all,
I recently had a very, what to say, different kind of problem with my
pc. Recently I added a new Sony DVD Rom drive to my pc. After that it
doesnt start at all. Just all kinds of light blinks in my pc but no
display in my monitor. Wht do u all think?? What could have been the
problem? By the way my board is Asus P5PE-VM motherboard(which is an
AGP board). So i have an old Geforce 6200 connected to it. My
processor is a Intel Pentium D 2.8 Ghz. I have 1 GB of RAM. I have
basically tried everything. I have disconnected everything reconnected
one by one to find out the error but still nothing seems to be
happening. BTW I use my PC for gaming. So will it be a good option to
upgrade if its a fried motherboard? I dont want to change my
processor, Harddrive, or Cabinet. So will it be fine setting my range
to about 500 - 600 US $?? And I want a good solution for gaming
preferably 8800 GT or a 9600. Thanks a lot.

I assume you've already removed the new DVD and tried to start?
Static discharge is a common culprit. I assume the machine was off and
"unplugged" (no lights on the mainboard) when you added the component? Its
very important to take static precautions before touching anything inside
the case.
Your power supply could have been on the verge of failure and the new
component pushed it over the edge. I would check that first.
Standard diagnostic is to remove (unplug) all peripherals except the video
card and try and boot with just the processor, ram, and primary hard drive.
Then add components back one at a time till you (hopefully) find the bad
one. If the box won't boot with the base configuration, then the usual
suspects are power supply and mainboard.
