Default Can't Hear Line-in Source

I have an IBM ThinkCentre with internal audio Soundmax - running Vista.
If I plug a sound source into the line in jack then I cannot hear it on the
speakers.
I have enabled line-in in the Soundmax setup and it has a barograph?
showing that sound is being detected.
I can play tracks in Media Player and hear them on the speakers.

But how do I get the sound to travel from the line-in jack to the line-out
jack?

Any help would be appreciated,

Davy

Like most sound managers, SoundMAX offers two
menus, for Playback and Recording devices, each
customizable via the /Options tab to show or hide
all configurations available on the PC. Usually
/ Options / Properties / Playback devices have a
Mute checkmark for each (i.e. optional) while
/ Options / Properties / Recording devices (i.e. input)
have a single Select checkmark for each audio source
-- i.e. one must be Selected.

Don,
if I right click on the 'speaker' icon in the tooltray then I can set the
recorder and playback options.
Recorder is set to line-in and the barograph shows that it is receiving
an audio signal.
Playback is set to 'speakers' (no mute checkmark available) and Media
Player originated sound is heard on the speakers.
But I still cannot hear on the speakers the sound going into the line-in
so I cannot hear what I am trying to record.

to solve this problem right click on the speaker symbol and open "playback devices". Now right click on speakers and open properties and click on the tab "levels" un-mute the line in and make sure it is up to 100 and you should hear it.
