Have you turned the wireless device on by pressing the on/off switch on
the laptop?

Yes, I have turned the switch on. No matter what position I place the
switch, the light is amber, meaning the internal wireless is off. The
light is supposed to be blue when the wireless is on.

I contacted HP and they suggested re flashing the bios, which I did,
but the problem remains, and I still have no option in the bios to
enable/disable the wireless card. They say it is a mb problem, and I
should send the laptop in for a free repair.

It's possible your miniPCI card is simply defective. -Dave

Before you do that, are you sure the card is firmly seated? I mean, this is
a laptop, it gets bounced around a bit. -Dave

There were huge problems with wireless cards
quitting on HP laptops. It's a well known issue.
A replacement mobo is the only answer. The
problem is so bad that some HP laptops have
had their warranties extended for another
year. See here http://www.techsupportforum.com/netw...-problems.html
Hello all, I have a Presario v6000 with same problem. This particular customer said that he had someone attempt to fix this. I found this pc running XP pro with an inoperative, (unseen in the device manager), wireless pci card. Thankfully the recovery partition was intact.
First step was to perform a full recovery of XP Media Center and update the bios.
Second step was to checkout and update the "Help Support" feature. Reading this section lead me to research any recalls or extended warranties. I found the serial numbers of this unit are included in a list pc's eligible for a Free Extended Warranty Repair. One of several problems listed was the inop or unseen wireless pci card.
So, I called HP/Compaq, set up a case etc. They are sending me a Fedex packaging kit. I am to send the unit, without the ac adapter and battery, back to HP for a free repair of this problem. Hp stated the turn around time should be 10-14 working days. I will post the outcome of this repair.
Hi, I am having the EXACT same problem like you Jack. I have a Pressario V6133CL and I can't get wireless, here is how it happened (bear with me please)
So on Sunday 10/25/09, I went for windows update and checked if I needed any updates. I saw an update about my wireless (802.11/b/g) and installed it. My mistake was that I forgot to create a restore point and went onwards in installing the updates. Once I rebooted my computer, the wireless connection was completely gone. I did a system restore to another point and my wireless was still gone. Since my computer was messed up by viruses, I formatted it and installed Windows XP pro with SP3, and I stupidly deleted the HP Recovery Partition (I had Media Center Edition 2005 sp3 I think).
I have installed all drivers from the HP site and still nothing. I even took it to my teacher, I have a class of Computer Technology Careers at CCOC, and even he didn't know what was wrong with it. He said that another computer was facing the exact same problem like mine. I later contacted HP via chat and said to unseat and re-seat my mini PCI/Express card and see if that worked, but it failed.
I am assuming that this problem is from HP and that we had nothing to do with it. However, I'm going to try to use the system back up utility (I luckily did a system back up before this happened) and/or use my recovery discs that I created years ago. I'll post what happens.
So Jack, I feel sorry for the both of us and for anyone out there with the same problem, but we may need to send our laptops to HP like Buddy did, or live with wired internet like I'm doing right now.
