I was shifting some DVD burners around over the weekend, and the
plastic guide part on the SATA connector on one came off and stuck
inside the plug at the end of the cable. All the pins are still in
place, but of course there's no longer anything to hold the SATA cable
on. Anybody had any experience repairing something like this or even
replacing a SATA combination connector (data and power)?
This particular burner is a Lite-On LH-20A1S that's only about three
months old. It's a great burner and I'd hate to lose it.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks philo and SteveH. I may have to resort to that. I'm taking
the burner in to a local computer shop tomorrow to see if they can
replace the connector, which I'd prefer if it can be done. But I'll
pick up a new angled SATA cable and "glue" it in if the connector
can't be replaced.
Thanks again.

That's exactly what I'll probably do, and it wouldn't surprise me if
the tech at the repair shop suggests it. I've done business with them
for years and they know I pinch pennies.

So you want him to tear the unit apart, pay $20 for the two connectors
plus $10 shipping ($30 total) and then try and solder all those wires
onto the pins?? Instead of just buying a new unit for about $30 or
better yet, using the glue as has been suggested?? Your logic does not
compute!

Well, who knows
if you've done business with them for years maybe they'll cut a a deal.
No problem with pinching pennies.
Though I have a good enough job...
I don't spend much money on computer equipment...

Sorry to be such a jokester...

Things came up today and I didn't get a chance to go by the computer
store. But assuming I'll be doing the glue thing, perhaps you can
clear up a few details if you would be so kind.
Do you bend the wires on the burner down a bit to make sure there's
firm contact with appropriate cable plug slots? Do you put glue just
on the flat underneath of the cable plug that will rest horizontally
on the burner, or on the plug tip that will surround the wires? Or
maybe on both?
I'll be using a right-angle cable plug to connect with the burner.
I'm a little concerned about the possibility of not having a proper
connection once the glue has set.
Thanks for your help and advice.
