Default AGP 8x in a 4x mobo

Some cards specify both 4x and 8x and most only specify 8x.
Can I use any 8x video card in a 4x mobo slot? I just want it to work,
don't care if it's half speed. In the future I'll probably use it in an
8x board, just can't see buying a 4x only card at this point.
I know about PCI-E and have that on another system.

It depends on the card and the MB. Read through this page to determine
if it's compatible: http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html

In most cases, if it fits, it will work. The motherboard connector is
fitted with a 'key' which fits into a slot on the card, if they don't match
up they are incompatible.

The 8x video card will run fine in that motherboard at half speed.

Bull**** again DaveW.......... The clock speed of the GPU and memory speed
are MUCH more important than whether it is in a 4x or 8x slot. It will show
only a few points difference in a benchmark like 3DMark and probably little
or no 'noticeable' difference in real-time usage.
