Default Upgrade Asus A8V Deluxe to Asus M2N SLi Deluxe worth it?

Hi,
I'm seriously considering upgrading my ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard
for the ASUS M2N SLi Deluxe.
The trouble is I will have to upgrade the RAM, graphics card and the
CPU! (I have a 2x 4600 SOCKET 939 but I would like to go for a 2x6000
AMD2).
I mainly use my pc for photo editing. I am running Vista Premium but use
a lot of hefty programs : Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw etc....
My pc is working fine, but not as fast as I would like

The RAM, motherboard, graphics card and CPU would be probably be over
£300...
Is it worth it?
I know that future upgrades would be more viable... but?

In what way is your present system deficient? How much RAM do you have.
You should have 3Gb with those applications. The new CPU would be about 30%
faster. What video card do you have?, You may be able to improve performance
with a new AGP card. If you need max speed, you should go Intel, the Core2
Duo is a great overclocker and will beat the present AMDs.

Mike.

Thats looks like a lot of money to spend to basically go from 2.4Ghz to
3.0Ghz.

If you're prepared to spend that kind of money then why not go the whole hog
and get the 6400 (3.2Ghz). That looks like being the fastest CPU that AMD
are going to produce for a while now (I'm not sure how much (if at all) the
programs you use will benefit from the quad cores around the corner which
will probably run at a lower clock speed anyway).

Just my thoughts.
Cheers!

Also, if I haven't talked you out of upgrading, I've just listed an ASUS
M2N-E SLi Deluxe motherboard on ebay...

I forgot to mention that my graphics card is a NVIDIA GeFORCE 7600 GS

Video card is not a factor in this use, until 3D gaming.

You wrote the opening post as if you're replacing a
motherboard for a performance gain but would have hoped to
use same CPU and memory if possible... which would be
practically no performance gain at all.

If you want to go cheap, I suggest you get a current gen
dual-core Athlon for skt 939 (and overclock it a bit if
desired, they tend to reach about 3GHz fairly easily).

Otherwise, it is more cost effective to move to Core2 or
Quad Duo platform (board/CPU, still DDR2 memory).

Another significant upgrade would be to run WinXP instead of
Vista.

How much RAM is installed and how many modules ? Is it PC3200 or other ?

Reverting to Windows XP would be a performance improvement.

The upgrade you propose offers very little over your current setup. Mildly
over clocking your current system will provide X2 6000+ performance for
little or no cost.

Ultimately, that is of course something only you can decide. But
IMHO a 25% increase in clock speed isn't really anything to get
too excited about - if your only problem is that the system isn't
quite as snappy as you'd like then I doubt it would be particularly
noticeable. If you really want the latest fastest hardware, sure,
go for it, but you do pay a hefty premium for the privilege.

I am course considering that the replacement memory, graphics card
etc are comparable in terms of performance to your existing setup,
although the apps you mention are more CPU and memory intensive
than anything else so I would guess that the graphics card is
relatively unimportant, and memory only really becomes significant
if you are swapping on a regular basis.
