Can anyone recommend a 17" non-widescreen, < 30W LCD monitor? I intend
to use it just for business making a widescreen useless in comparison
to a 17" diagonal

It's operational power consumption is 34W which is good but I can get
this with some 19" models. I was hoping to use 17" and so get around
28W like the Hannspree above but with a standard rather than
widescreen

Unless you're running this off solar panels I feel you're
making too much of a deal about power consumption. What if
the lower power consumption is due to inferior lighting that
results in worse picture?
