Hi, I'm about to get an Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe
board with a 6000 AM2 CPU.
But I know nothing about graphics cards..
I mainly use my pc for photo editing (the only computer game I play is
backgammon) and I'm looking for a single PCI-E card which is quiet and
stable for around £60.

If you are wanting to use any of the DX10 stuff in Vista you could go with
an NV 8800GTS card, but that is above your price range. With what little
gaming you do, you could use about any PCI-E card you can find in your price
range, it just will not give you some of the eye candy of DX10 which will be
visible only in upcoming games that will be supporting it.

This one is fanless. The advantage of fanless, is there is no cheap fan to
fail or squeak. I have one computer here, with a fanless card, and I place
an 80mm case cooling fan next to it, blowing on the heatsink. The case cooling
fan is of a better quality than the normal video card fans (mine is a ball
bearing fan from a local electronics store).
Check for customer reviews, for each card in the list. If there is a
recurring theme in the reviews (i.e. "my card was dead when I got it"),
then perhaps choosing another would be a good idea.

That isn't challenging at all for a graphics card so don't be sold
up to the latest fastest hardware. Something like:
will run Vista with the Aero interface and is perfectly adequate
for your purposes. It's based on the Radeon X1050 which isn't the
fastest chip out there but it isn't exactly antiquated either.
For £21.15 it isn't worth buying anything more and it's fanless to
boot.

Vista Aero needs nothing special but a DX9 card, not even
DX10. Any low end last generation card would suffice, as
photo editing has no benefit from cards with more gaming/3D
performance. Backgammon shouldn't either though I suppose
it could be a really fancy 3D version in which case you
should look at the game manufacturer's recommendations for
minimal card generations/performance/feature sets the game
might need, but odds are any modern low end card could run
it unless the game has some bugs or limited support.
The generic answer is to buy the cheapest DX10 capable card
you can find. As Paul mentioned it is reasonable to pick
one with a passive heatsink to avoid fan noise and
maintenance issues. If there is a large difference in price
of cheapest DX10 and DX9 alternatives available to you, then
the cheapest DX9 card would do as well for your uses... I
only mentioned DX10 cards since they are now current
generation but sometimes that means the last gen cards are
being cleared out at discounted pricing.
As for specific models, it'll depend on where (internet or
locally) you prefer to buy it. Everyone and their brother
sells low end DX9 and 10 cards if they sell computer
hardware at all.
