When I was troubleshooting my system I ended up installing xp and vista in
dual boot arrangement. I have since moved the drive that vista was on back
to the original computer. But I still have the boot screen asking me to
pick an operating system. How do I kill the dual boot screen and go back
the computer going right to windows XP?

Edit BOOT.INI, it's a hidden system file. Just make XP install the
default. Open 'Help and Support' and search for "Edit boot.ini".

Three ways..
1: (preferrable)
Edit c:\boot.in (hiodden,system/read only file)
from there delete all references to Vista
2: Use ControlPanel-> Advanced nad ffrom drop-down list choose XP and set
timeout to 0
3: Boot from your XP install CD, choose 1st R(epair), enter 1 and password,
type bootfix[enter]

I did a search for the boot.ini. It showed up in a windows folder. The bak
was in the c: root directory.
Here are the contents:
;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home
Edition" /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /USEPMTIMER
It does not look like any reference to Win Vista in the code area. Just the
notes. What needs to be changed?

I have a very old unused WinME on my c: drive and WinXP on my d: drive I'm dual
booting on. I never use the ME anymore. Will this method work for me?

I have it in the root directory now. The contents are the same as those
posted in this thread. No reference to Vista. What do I change in the
posting I did?

Contents of the file are as above. What do I need to change? I don't see a
reference to Vista.

Have you got your stuff to work with the P5K Premium ?
Others (including me) are having the same issues you described,
please see this posting:
No, I just return the crucial memory and replaced with Kingston. ASUS said
it was the Crucial memory. I tried the VISTA install and it gets through the
copy stage just fine now then hangs on the expand stage. Three dots run
fine but no DVD rom activity. I am very frustrated. As above I have done a
VISTA install with all this gear on my old XP PC so I know all the drives
check out. Now that I have sunk the bucks into the mailing on the memory I
still have the issue.
I'm going to clear the CMOS again and try one more time. Then I will try an
XP install and see if that works. Next is MB return. I've never had issues
with ASUS products. This is a first if it is the MB.
