First LCD monitor

I just bought my first LCD monitor as my 21" CRT (1995 model)
finally flaked out on me. I bought a Hanns-G 19" Wide Screen
(HW-193DPB).

This monitor has a 5 ms. response time. However, I notice some
"ghosting" in games, but not bad. The reviews I've seen for this
monitor seem to be good, and say it's good for gaming. I thought it
would come with a DVI-D cable, but it only came with the VGA. I'd have
purchase one separately. Is the fact that I'm using an analog VGA
cable instead of a DVI cable causing the "ghosting", or is it normal
for an LCD of this quality?

Some degree of ghosting is normal regardless if you are using the analog
input or the digital input.

When you purchase low-cost LCD monitors, you need to check to see if it
comes with both a analog and a digital input. Some low end LCD's are analog
only. And even if it's both analog and digital, that doesn't mean it will
come with both cables. It's another way for the manufacture to cut costs.

It looks like your monitor is both analog and digital, but only shipped with
the analog cable.

Well not really, it's a low-end monitor bested by just about
any major brand, but often they are cheaper so to put it in
perspective it's not a bad value if it meets your goals but
it seems it does not, if you find the ghosting excessive.
So the monitor may be acceptible to some, at it's price, but
relatively speaking it's not so good compared to other LCDs.

It would cause a similar ghosting at all times, not just
during games but even on windows(?) desktop.

I can't speak for the Hanns. I got a 20" Samsung 204B and very
satisified with it. The biggest negative was the $70 rebate hassle
(they first rejected my rebate, I resubmitted, and after 5 months I
finally got my check.) Have not seen any ghosting. If I needed a new
monitor I'd get a widescreen.

When you pay that little for an LCD 19" monitor you really cannot expect
much in the way of performance.

Response time measurement seem to vary by manufacturer.......some do it the
right way.black to white to black.
others do not and only report the gray to white to gray...........those are
the ones that "ghost".
A lot if independent reviews now report this disrepency.
