Default Unplug a cooling fan while PC turned on?

I need an additional fan in my PC - the only room is on the side
panel, bolted onto the outside of the casing (sticking out, as it
were). If I want to take off the side while the PC is on, I will need
to unplug the little connector to the power supply to remove the panel
completely (its the regular tiny fan connector 4-pin plusg and
socket). Is this ok to do?

Thanks!
