Default Socket 775 heatsink probs

Hi. Got a C2D E6600 with stock heatsink. Installed it on Friday without
too much issue (I thought). But this morning it's just been cutting out
after 20 seconds. Open it up and two of the screws on the heatsink have
come out. Whenever I put any pin in, the opposite one pops up, even if
I'm holding it down very hard with a screwdriver, it just comes up as
soon as I let go, and I can't make the thing stay down. What do I
do?!?! (and please don't say get another cooler, I need this computer
this afternoon urgently). Thanks.

They aren't really screws, they are push pins and tabs. Do you have them
oriented correctly?
Review the installation video.

Hello,

See if this helps. Those pushpins can be quite annoying. :-)

Too bad about being in such a rush. But the better option is to look
around for a better heatsink/fan mounting system, preferably one that
really screws/bolts in and also clamps the heatsink to the CPU better
than the stock Intel. Too much synthetics being used and not so sturdy
at that. Just wait until you break one of these pushpin lockdowns.
