Default Repeated booting problem

What causes a winxp sp2 desktop on bootup to keep rebooting. Also when
running windows, it will boot automatically - powers off and one...
off and on. The system only has basic software installed like office
and only DUN. Is it a virus or something?

It's annoying when you are trying to burn a data cd wasting discs and
getting worse.

Help.

Bad memory, probably. When you replace it, if the MB is capable,
replace with ECC memory and never have the problem again.
