hi all,
is there in reality a real problem with running 2 or 3 cat 5 PC network
cables in the same conduit as mains cables? the runs
would be approx 10-15 metres... if so how far would they need to be
separated? we're hoping to cram a couple of telephone cables in there too !!
definite no way ?
many thanks!

In reality you want to keep your cat 5 as separated from as much other
junk (live wire) as possible. Heck it cost us a man/day of time just to
reroute far enough away from a furnace motor once. No problem in the
Summer but when the heat kicked on 1 meter was too close.

Not a good idea...
not only will there be interference...it's a clear safety violation

Bad idea. Ethernet and phone can be in the same conduit, but if you
want your network to actually work well, neither one should be run
with the power lines.

What about using some extra shielding?

Still not a good idea...
in addition to the interference...there is the safety issue
btw: network and telephone cables do not have to be in conduit at all
