Default Picture display

On accasion in some emails, pictures show up as a small box in the upper
left corner with a red 'x' in it. Is this due to some settings?

XPPro SP2, 1gig ram, P4 processor and I use Outlook for mail.

And a lot of providers dont transmit the attachments,

Look at the raw email code, what is generating that box with
the X. Might be that the image is not where a URL is
pointing anymore, or you have disabled that feature in
Outlook to show that embedded content, or the attachment
didn't make it,was stripped off.
