Default laptop question

Have inherited a dell lattitude c500 laptop, installed new hard drive with
win 2000 pro. Works great, no problems. Unit is also wireless, have not
tried it as i use cable connection. Question is, in device manager, pci
simple communications controller is not working, no driver installed. I
can't get to update. Searching says this is modem related. Friend wants
laptop and he is wireless at residence. Will this have any effect on
connection thru wireless. Have 802.11g wireless lan pc card that came with
laptop, label is gone from front so have no idea who manufacturer is. But if
card is good, will it connect wirelessly. Cannot try myself as battery is
dead, only works with adapter and I'm not close to any signal. Thanks for
any info.

It shouldn't affect the wireless networking at all.

You should be able to find drivers here:
