Hard drive failure help

Dear group,

I have a hard drive failure. It is a Toshiba 60GB laptop hard drive
with a single NTFS partition.
Mac can recognize the partition and read the directories, but has
difficulty getting files out of it.
We tried a hard disc copy, but the copy halted after finishing about
58 GB.
Now both the old drive and the new drive seem to miss directory
information.

Could anyone estimate how bad the hard drive is and at the best how
many files are recoverable?
Is it worthwhile to send this to a professional data recovery service?

CZ, I used these, all take time but work.
O&O Disk Recovery (size:3,191kb)
Active File Recovery v7.1.901 (size:3mb)
RecoverMyFiles (size:4,770kb)
Post here if you want one. (make sure your e-mail addy is active)
The recovery process is not rapid & you need space, obviously, to copy
to.

I've had great results from GetDataback, after trying many other tools that
did not work. The free trial will see if it can get anything back for you,
but it won't actually get anything back.

Theres no way we can know whether the data stored since your
last backup is worth the cost of pro recovery, but in the majority
of cases the answer is no.
