I have an Emachine 2862, that is dead, will not power on, no
activity. I purchased and installed a new power supply, still the
same result. After I installed the power supply I do notice a green
light on the mother board is illuminated when power is supplied to the
unit. I do not know if that light was there with the previous power
supply. Not sure how to proceed from here, anyone have any ideas?

Are you certain the new power supply is sufficient for the
system? You haven't really told us anything about the
hardware, the major makes/models of parts in this system nor
the original and replacement PSU specs.
The typical attempt to fix this would be unplugging from AC
and using the clear CMOS jumper (or removing battery for a
few minutes), then plug AC back in and retry. Next remove
all parts nonessential towards posting like drives and leave
only one memory module, CPU w/heatsink-fan, and oldest
(lowest powered) video card you have IF it doesn't have
integrated video).
If that doesn't work and no fans seem failed (all spin
freely by hand or you see them spinning), it's then becoming
reasonable to assume the motherboard has failed. Inspect
the board for failed capacitors, though it might've failed
from another cause.

Disconnect all peripheral power plugs, hdd, floppy, CD-ROM\DVD-ROM and any
USB connections. Reseat RAM, reseat graphics card (unless it is of the
onboard type). Push start button. If it starts then one of the peripherals
is the culprit.
No change?
Locate the two pins that the start button switch is connected. Remove
connector and with a flat blade screwdriver momentarily touch the two pins
simultaneously. Shorting these pins would normally allow current from the PS
to flow and start the computer if the switch is the problem.
If it doesn't start then it is most likely the mb or the cpu or minimally
the cpu fan that is either not connected or not working.

Emachine+dead power supply=dead motherboard too.
Usually. Sometimes the processor gets taken out. But it's typically a
multiple failure thing.

Yes he did. The original is a POS Bestec power supply. (that's what
all emachines in this generation use)
This one has an Intel desktop board. (yes, i know that intel chipset
does not imply an Intel motherboard, but I've serviced this model, and
that's what it had)

The T2862 is stock Emachine system. I purcheased a 400W replacement
power supply, that the vendor claims is an upgraded power supply,
supported by the T2862. The power supply is a 20pin + 4, the mother
board of the T2862 only accepts a 20 pin, so according to the PS
vendor you just don't use the +4 adapter.

Should be just fine. Emachines use standard atx power.
As others have said, unplug everything non-essencial. As most things
are integrated, this means pull the modem and drives. (and cables too)
IIRC, there should be a +4 connector on this motherboard, double check
that it's not hidden somewhere. It could be the source of all your
misery if it's not plugged in.
Else, you've got a dead motherboard or processor. Or possibly the
processor fan. But again IIRC, this model will power on without one
(scary).
