Can some of you techies answer a question about my LCD monitor? Please

OK, so I have a 22" Samsung LCD.
On the face of my monitor, it says 2ms / 3000:1 Contrast

But when I look at the specs, I see this: "Contrast Ratio 700:1(DC
3000:1)"
What is "DC 3000:1"?
DVI Connected? That's all I can think of. Is that what it means? Cause
it is connected via DVI.

That probably stands for "dynamic contrast". The 700:1 contrast ratio is
measured at a fixed backlight level. That is a measure of how black it
can be, if the backlight is running normally.

Dynamic contrast, is the adjustment of the backlight, based on the picture
content. They can makes the blacks look blacker, if they turn down the
lamps. But fiddling with the lamps, also ruins any attempt to calibrate
the panel for Photoshop work. So, ideally, it is the kind of feature
you'd want in the OSD (on screen display menu), with an option to
disable it. 700:1 is still an excellent figure for an LCD.

dimmer after a few days use. After I set it to costome mode and got
the adjustments I liked I've left it at that and it's been great for
everything I do, Text, Movies, Gameing, Internet, Multimedia, Everything

Do not use quoted-printable format.
* Not all NNTP clients handle quoted-printable format.
* Quoting gets mangled, especially for replies.
* No clear delineation between content for poster and respondent.


Go by the regular contrast spec to compare LCD monitors. DC (dynamic
contrast) has the light tube changing its output based on screen
content so it is a bogus spec. You'll probably find the DC setting
(their MagicTune's MagicBright setting) will wash out your colors and
actually reduce contrast because they up the contrast to its max
setting based on the content. What used to be slightly different gray
colored toolbars will then all look the same color (white). I haven't
found their MagicBright (DC) setting to be desirable at any time but
their Game, Text, and Custom settings are handy for switching between
the brightness/contrast pairs of settings.
