Default Big problems caused by Upgrading memory Options

A week or so I posted a message about upgrading the memory and the
replies were very helpful. I bought some memory online and opened up
my PC. There were two memory slots and one was hard to get at as the
video card was in the way. So I took out the video card (carefully)
then popped out the two memory cards. Then I realised that I'd bought
the wrong memory card!! Silly me, never mind I'd only lost a few
pounds, so I put the old memory cards back and the video card.

Trouble is that the PC now doesn't work:

1) PC starts up and you hear the drives start to turn
2) There is nothing displayed on the monitor
3) The PC gives three long beeps, pause, three long beeps etc etc.

I don't understand what I could have done wrong taking out some memory
and video cards and then replacing them.

How can I get my PC back?

Any help warmly appreciated.

Peter

OK, Let me double-check that I've put the video card in properly and
re-try.

have tried reseating the card a couple of times now. It clicks into
place neatly, but still the same problem.. Might i have accidently
damaged the card as I took it out. Would this cause the problem?

Then your next check should be the SIMMs.
I recon that you did remove them ?
Check if they are properly seated, no dust or other bad stuff
inside the SIMM connectors.
If the problem persists, try booting with just one of the SIMM
modules.

How do you know that the computer is ten years old?

It sounds like you didn't fully seat one of the RAM sticks. I would try
again carefully inserting them with firm pressure. It does take some force.
