Autoplay on Reader

I am not sure whether this counts as a hardware problem so apologies if I am
asking in the wrong place.

I have a card reader on my PC which, amongst others, takes the Smart Media
cards from my camera. I used to be able to insert the card, select in the
Autoplay window to see a slideshow of the pictures, click OK and the
slideshow would commence. Now, although Autoplay still comes up, I select
the slideshow option, click OK and, apart from the Autoplay window closing,
nothing happens.

How can I get the slideshow option to work again please?
