I was wondering is it possible to get a 17" dual core notebook for under
$700 in Canada ? (pointless buying something that expensive from USA -
customs would just nail me tax)
I originally thought the Acer Aspire 9300-3089 was dual core, but it turns
out every retailer has the same wrong description (the description says dual
core or X2, but the specs say Turion 64 MK-38 which is only single right ?
Even $750 before tax would be good.. is this possible ?

No it is dual core. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._12651,00.html
Also, quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turion_64
"The first letter is M for single core processors and T for dual core Turion
64 X2 processors."

According to this, the dual core are "Turion 64 X2" and the single core are
"Turion 64". The cache spec also helps verify whether it is single or
dual core.
I'd say an MK-38 (TMDMK38HAX4CM) is a single core.
The AMD site is careful to provide minimal information about the
single core ones. For example, I cannot find a way to navigate to
this page, but did find the page via a search engine. And again, they're
ashamed of the word "single" and don't want to use it for fear of
scaring away customers.
The usual scam, you can't find specs for the NCIX model number... At
least not on acer.ca , but I'm not going further than that. You have to
be careful, as it appears Acer does sell units with French keyboards, so
there may be different keyboards on offer in those things.
I'm looking at a refurbished Acer Aspire 9410-4872 with Intel Core Duo T2450
2.0Ghz and 1GB DDR2 for $600.
Does this sound like a reasonable price ? I've seen newer models with the
rounded look too, but they want more money for a lower clock speed (like
$650 for Core2 1.46Ghz).
Are people getting charged more money for a new fancy look ? A lot of the
aspire series seem to have this ugly rounded look - what happened to the
normal square looking shape ?

At $600, is the unit complete ? Includes battery, adapter, software CD and
manuals ? You'd think, if the price is "below market price", there'd be
something missing. Any way to check reputation of company, such as
resellerratings.com or a BBB local to them ?
I bought the wife a new Toshiba 17" ,2gb DDR2,160g HD,1.7dual core etc etc
for 699.00 jus before Xmas.......New
I thing if you have patience and look around you will find a NEW model for
maybe 100 bucks more....but it will be new!!
No having to worry about why was it refurbished!!
