Question XP on gateway ml3109 HELP!

First off, i am new to this forum and i am in dire need of assistance.

i just bought a gateway ml3109 laptop at my local best buy. seeing that it only had 512mb ram, and it was unfortunately running windows vista.....i decided to upgrade my ram to 1.5g. you would think that it would do some good......WRONG! it still runs slow, and i want to downgrade to windows XP. so i formatted my HD and popped in my xp installation disk. upon quick formatting my HD in the setup, i get an error when windows starts the initial setup. A fatal error message pops up and tells me that setup cannot continue. then my laptop restarts. i really don't want vista yet, i want xp and i am wondering if anyone can help me in this situation.

Thanks ahead,
Kris
