The motherboard will fit in the older chassis just fine. Check its power
requirements. You may need a new power supply, either to provide more wattage
or more than likely to provide the extra 12v 4-pin power connector needed by the
new motherboard. The type of power supply you would need is an ATX12v.
You will probably need to reinstall and reauthenticate Windows XP.
Can you do better? I don't know. I do very little with AMD CPUs... Ben Myers

Thanks Ben,
Last year I upgraded the power supply to 500 watts.
I think I'll take the plunge. I like the price and it should get him by for
a few more years.
A year-old 500w power supply is very likely to have the 4-pin 12v connector
required by modern motherboards, whether AMD or Intel... Ben Myers

It has the correct connector.
I bought that motherboard with a AMD A64 X2 4000 2.10 GHz and 2
sticks of 1024MB PC 6400 DDR2 800 MHz for a grand total of $211.39.
The board and processor are far from state of the art, but I think I
got a good deal.

I don't have a Fry's near me. I wish I did.
Over the years I've bought three Gateways with Intel and one with AMD. They
are long gone.
Now, I have three computers all AMD. If it wasn't for AMD, who knows what
we'd be paying for a computer?

As a long-time AMD stockholder, I appreciate both you guys. ;-D
