I'm looking to max out the RAM on my Emachines M6811, and I'd like some
instructions for replacing the second DIMM buried under the keyboard. Their
tech support keeps pointing me towards their web site, which shows how to
replace the first DIMM from the bottom of the laptop, but ignores the second
DIMM.
Way back when I saw instructions for the second DIMM, but I can't seem to
find them now.
While I'm sure I can figure it out, I'd rather not remove any screws or
parts that I don't have to.

Here is what it says on the www.4allmemory.com webpage for the eMachines
M6811:
System Information
Maximum memory: 1280 MB
Standard memory: 512 MB = 256 MB (non-removable) + 256 MB (removable)
Slots: 1 socket
Here is what it says on the www.crucial.com website:
a.. Maximum Memory: 1280MB
b.. USB Support: 2.x Compliant
c.. Standard Memory: 256MB removable
d.. Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
e.. Although this system actually has two memory sockets, the second
cannot be accessed by the end user.
Looks like all you can do is to replace the 256MB module and replace it with
a 1GB module

I appreciate the links. No doubt it wasn't meant to be replaced by the "end
user", but that rarely stops some folks, including me. heh

I have run across other laptops with the second SODIMM memory socket hidden
under the keyboard. The really cheesy Dell Inspirons are one example that
comes to mind. Depending on the layout underneath the keyboard, either a
fairly easy job to add/change a SODIMM or a serious PITA. You got that right.

In this case that could stand for either "Laughing Out Loud" or
"Lots Of Luck" (or both). ;-)
