Gateway 700x and MX400 DVI-D WideScreen LCD issue.
I hope this gets through all of the spam on this forum.
I have a Gateway 700x with a Geforce2 MX400. I added an ACER X223 22"
widescreen LCD on the DVI-D port and get the BSOD in WinXP-Pro SP2. If
I boot in safe mode, it does come up...so that indicates a driver
issue. I loaded the latest Nvidia Forceware. This Monitor WILL work
using the VGA out on the card. Also, if I connect the 19" NEC to the
VGA port (where it used to live) and the ACER to the DVI-D, the NEC
runs and the ACER gets no Video. However, the nvidia control panel
does see the X223. I want to run dual monitors, but for some reason,
the DVI-D port only works in safe mode. That tells me that the
hardware is OK...and it is a driver issue.
Any ideas? Someone said to try and get an ATI Radeon 8500 as the
Nvidia had Wide Screen issues?

MPSAN,
Geforce2 MX400, is an old card, I am amazed it will drive your 22 Wide
Screen Monitor...
I think that is the problem, running in safe mode uses an abbreviated
video driver (640x480), and my thoughts this does not indicate a driver
problem. I think it is a video power problem... Not able to drive the
monitors together...
I have a Gainward Ti 450, single monitor card and it will not drive the
the 20 inch monitor... I am not certain how you are going to drive two
monitors with your MX400.
On e-bay I can only find one GeForce2 mx400 dual monitor Video card... Two
VGA ports, no DVI port... Did they have DVI ports in 2000, or are you
using an adapter? http://cgi.ebay.com/VISIONTEK-GeForc...QQcmdZViewItem
I have never heard of a Nvidia wide screen problem... I think it is age
of your hardware, or you have listed your card incorrectly as a Geforce2
MX400... In 2001 the GeForce3 was released.
I am running this monitor with on-board graphics using a $99 motherboard
and CPU combo - I purchased earlier this year in my local Fry's Electronic
store.

Thank you. Yes it is a Geforce2 MX400 and does have a DVI-D as well as
VGA.
Anyway, I do think that it just will not drive the Monitor. On AMAZON,
I found an HIS/ATI 9250 card with DVI-I and VGA. It has 128MB memory
rather than the MX400's 64MB. It is AGP4X and was $39 less a $15
rabate and Amazon "gift" of $15. So, not bad for $9.
